This year one of the most decisive turning points in British history – the Battle of Hastings – commemorates its 960th anniversary, and to mark the occasion the world-famous Bayeux Tapestry has made its way to the British Museum, just a short stroll from One Aldwych. In honour of the skill behind tapestry, this Christmas, we have dedicated the season to the talented makers of the world, feeling inspired to explore, experience, and experiment our own relationships with creativity.

A festive embroidery workshop with lunch

For those inspired by the talent behind the Bayeux tapestry, we’ve teamed up with the Royal School of Needlework, founded in 1872 and based at Hampton Court Palace, for a series of festive embroidery workshops at the hotel on Sunday 8th November, Sunday 22nd November and Sunday 6th December. Once your final stitch is in, you’ve earned a roast and a glass of wine in the Lobby Bar.

Inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and the power of creativity to connect us, our Christmas charity partner is Pyjama Fairies, the only UK charity sewing pyjamas and surgical gowns designed for babies and children having surgery or medical tests. This festive season, we’ll donate £1 from every table served in our bar and restaurant, bringing a little magic and a smile to families facing difficult journeys.
