A Storybook Christmas: One Aldwych x BookTrust
This Christmas, One Aldwych invites guests to step into a festive season inspired by the elegance, wit and warmth of Jane Austen, as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of her birth. With the hotel transformed into a world of ribbons, paper garlands, classic novels and Regency charm, it felt only fitting that this year’s celebrations honour not just Austen’s legacy, but the enduring magic of reading itself.
In that spirit, we are proud to partner with BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, whose mission mirrors the values at the heart of our literary theme: imagination, opportunity and the belief that stories can be life changing.
For over 100 years, BookTrust has helped millions of children develop a love of reading, especially those from low-income families or vulnerable backgrounds. Their work begins at birth, with the beloved Bookstart programme gifting books to every newborn baby in the UK, and continues through childhood with reading packs, resources, author-led initiatives and expertly curated children’s literature. Their research shines light on the profound impact that reading can have on a child’s confidence, wellbeing and future prospects, and their nationwide programmes help families build lasting reading habits at home.
This is why BookTrust felt like the perfect partner for a Jane Austen Christmas. One that celebrates the joy of books, the power of imagination and the communities built through storytelling.
Throughout December, guests are invited to support BookTrust during their stay, whether that’s through donating directly, getting involved in hotel initiatives or simply learning more about the charity’s inspiring work.
And behind-the-scenes, our One Aldwych team is embracing the season of generosity too, with members from all departments taking part in London’s Santa in the City – running (or strolling) through the city in full festive costume to raise funds for BookTrust.
By partnering with BookTrust, we hope to honour that belief, supporting the next generation of readers and ensuring that more children experience the magic found between the pages of a good story.
This festive season, we invite you to step inside, explore, support, and, in the true Austen spirit, lose yourself in a little literary enchantment.
