The Enchanting Festive Season

November 2023 (London, UK) – This year, One Aldwych, London’s cultured independent hotel, deep in Covent Garden, will be transformed into an enchanted forest, creating a magical woodland escape – alongside a delicious new cocktail menu featuring climate-positive gin and vodka by sustainable British spirit brand, Sapling.

Everyone who works at One Aldwych is passionate about the countryside and protecting the natural world – which is evident in this year’s wild and natural Christmas tree installation reaching to the ceiling of the hotel’s famous double-height Lobby Bar, its graceful branches covered in lichen, and decorated as if foraged from the forest floor – all dreamt up by incredible resident florist, Mark Siredzuk.

While the woodland forest might not tempt the deer and owls in from the countryside, woven willow creatures will gather around the tree, framed by warm fairy lights that twinkle invitingly, encouraging guests to follow a woodland trail off the busy streets and into this fetching forest dream. Young guests will enjoy finding the creatures hidden throughout the hotel and are sure to be tempted by Chef Dominic’s snow-covered gingerbread house hidden in a woodland of
confectionery.

Sapling Cocktails in The Lobby Bar
This choice of partner was easy. Sapling exists for three reasons; to lead the way with sustainability in the drinks industry, tackle climate change, and make world-class spirits. The festive spirit will even go back to nature, as with every bottle mixed into drinks during the party season Sapling will plant a tree! And to launch the menu, Sapling will be planting one tree per cocktail for the first week. Signature cocktails include the Woodland Negroni (Sapling Gin, Campari, Aker English Rose Aperitif, Spice Berry Cordial, Supasawa, and Cranberry Bitters) – and the Enchanted Fizz (Sapling Raspberry & Hibiscus Vodka, Lemon, Syrup, Fresh Cranberries, Champagne). Available from 11th November from £24.

Festive Film & Fizz
Rather than go with the hordes to the high street, One Aldwych’s Curzon-powered cinema is a hidden subterranean gem. With only 30 seats, it makes for a cosy screening (good views guaranteed from all angles), and a great selection of Christmas favourites from Elf and Love Actually, to White Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life. Festive Film & Fizz includes a threecourse meal in Indigo, One Aldwych’s signature restaurant and neighbourhood jewel famed for flavour, alongside popcorn and a glass of Chapel Down, to add a little fizz to the film. Available selected dates throughout November and December from £95pp.

Stay & Skate in December
Making the most of Covent Garden’s festive magic, the Stay & Skate offer for two at One Aldwych includes a luxurious overnight stay, tickets to Skate at the hotel’s neighbours Somerset House, a Covent Garden Black Card for shopping with exclusive discounts, a bottle of Henners sparkling wine in room on arrival, English breakfast and full access to the One Aldwych Spa. From £939 per night based on two adults sharing. Available between 1st – 31st December 2023,
excluding 24th & 25th December.

The Most Wonderful Time of The Year (24th- 26th December)
Experience the magic of One Aldwych at Christmas with a sumptuous two-night stay from Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day. Upon arrival, indulge in a bottle of Champagne and festive treats, Festive Film & Fizz with a two-course lunch in the Lobby Bar OR a three-course lunch in Indigo, and say goodnight to the eve of Christmas with milk, cookies, and carrots for Father Christmas. Christmas Day begins with Champagne and breakfast canapés in the Library, followed by lunch in Indigo and a guided walk and coffee around the charming Covent Garden with General Manager, Janine Marshall. Guests begin their Boxing Day with a delicious English breakfast followed by a relaxing late check-out. From £2,660 for 2-nights based on two adults sharing.

Festive Charlie & The Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea
Back with a Christmas-powered, scrumdiddlyumptious menu, the much-loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea at One Aldwych indulges everyone’s inner child and opens the imagination to the magical world of Roald Dahl’s iconic children’s novel. Splendid savouries include Cotswold turkey, chestnut, and cranberry sandwich and not quite as it seems beetroot macaron, whilst scrumptious sweets include a mandarin and spiced plum sweet and scones with ‘snozzberry’ jam and ‘all the creams’. From £58 per child and £90 per adult.

Editor’s Notes:
One Aldwych – Covent Garden’s cultured, independent hotel – a true modern oasis, privately owned, standing proud within the distinctive, stand-alone, triangular building, former home of the great Morning Post newspaper, at the point where the City meets the West End. With stunning spacious, clean, contemporary interiors by Fabled Studio and Robert Angell, embellished with Art Nouveau flourishes inspired by the building – and spirited English touches – warm, welcoming and a little unconventional. The result is an exquisite, expressive, original style as befits a truly independent London hotel. Covent Garden’s neighbourhood restaurant, Indigo, is the home of simply delicious dishes by Chef Dominic Teague, using ingredients from the best British independent producers – while the hotel’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired afternoon tea is a firm favourite with young and old alike. Other facilities include the Lobby Bar, The Library, 30-seat Screening Room, and Health Club with 18-metre / 59-foot chlorine-free swimming pool, spa and gym.

Sapling Spirits
Sapling Spirits was first founded in 2018 by Co-founders, Ed Faulkener and Ivo Devereux as the world’s first climate positive British-made spirits brand. Made in the heart of London, Sapling uses local ingredients to reduce transport emissions. It is four time distilled from 100% British wheat and with charcoal filtered, de-ionised water. The brand produces both Vodka and a London Dry Gin range and for every bottle sold a tree is planted. The Sprits Business
awarded the brand with a Gold medal for their Sapling Climate Positive Vodka and Sapling Zero Waste Raspberry & Hibiscus Vodka in 2023. On each bottle a unique code tells you what tree was planted where and a little about the planting project. From fruit trees in London to Oak trees in Bristol, it’s the local communities who benefit from our planting projects. One tree can absorb up to 1.5 tonnes of carbon in its lifetime. Making a bottle of vodka emits about 2.5kg of carbon. Meaning each bottle of Sapling pays back over 535 times. This innovative initiative alongside Sapling Spirits eco conscious production saw the brand awarded B Corp status in January 2022.
