One Aldwych’s Private Rooms

Following a season of hibernation, our beautiful Private Rooms are set to spring back to life with a brand new identity

May we introduce the Press Room and Type Rooms  – all reflecting our Edwardian building’s origins as the headquarters of the Morning Post newspaper.

In 1905, Lord Glenesk commissioned the renowned Anglo-French architects Mewès and Davis to transform 346 Strand into his vision of a publishing powerhouse. The printing presses presided over the basement for over 20 years and the signature steel beams can still be seen in Eneko Basque Kitchen & Bar and our swimming pool today. In fact, there are a number of clues giving away our media heritage that can be spotted around the hotel, including our new vintage typewriters displayed in the Private Rooms.

Sir Winston Churchill (a former employee of the Morning Post) also printed the government’s short-lived newspaper The British Gazette within these walls and the building later became the home of society magazine Tatler – can you imagine the gossip?

Fast forward to 2020 and we are ready to welcome you back to our stunning Private Rooms, two of which overlook the iconic Aldwych.

Perhaps over the past few months, you’ve missed celebrating a birthday, engagement or a new arrival? Get your family and friends together in one of our rooms and let us take care of everything while you relax and catch up.

Discover a world of imagination with our fabulous Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea, inspired by Roald Dahl’s classic novel. Or, enjoy a sumptuous modern British feast that happens to be both dairy and gluten-free with a choice of Indigo restaurant dishes designed by Executive Chef Dominic Teague.

We look forward to welcoming you and your special guests to mark those special life moments in the utmost safety and comfort in one of our beautiful private event rooms
