Celebrate VE Day at Home with a Fabulous Cocktail

Friday 8th May 2020 marks 75 years since VE Day as we remember the end of the Second World War in Europe.

It may look rather different to the original plans this year, as the annual street parties, parades and concerts are put on hold, however we can still celebrate this milestone occasion to the fullest at home.

Whether you will mark the day baking a delicious Victoria sponge cake, getting creative with some home-made bunting or singing along to Dame Vera Lynn’s wartime favourites, we suggest you allow us to take care of the drinks.

Of course, it would only be right to toast with Britain’s favourite spirit - gin - and our very own British Cup is the perfect tipple to take you into the bank holiday weekend.

Already tempted?  Here’s everything you need to know, as the Lobby Bar’s Pedro Paulo shares the recipe for this floral, aromatic, very British cocktail:

British Cup
50ml London Dry Gin
30ml elderflower cordial
15ml cold Earl Grey tea
30ml English sparkling wine

How to make it:
Brew a small cup of Earl Grey tea for five minutes, remove the tea bag and set the tea aside to cool down.

In a glass teacup (or whichever round glass you have at home), add the gin, elderflower cordial and the cold Earl Grey tea.

Fill the cup with ice and stir it gently, then top up with the English sparkling wine.  Blend all of the ingredients carefully to keep the cocktail fizzy.

Garnish with a lemon twist and if you happen to have some edible gold leaf in your cupboard, sprinkle in a little for that extra celebratory touch.

Please join us in spirit and raise a glass (or should we say a ‘cup’) to our heroes who sacrificed so much to keep us safe.  How will you be spending VE Day?
