5 Fun Things to Do for Half Term

Half Term in London

A family trip to London is truly magical and there are so many exciting activities to keep everyone happy during half term.  Whether your kids love toys, theatre or being outdoors, you can find activities to keep them engaged and inspired close to the hotel in vibrant Covent Garden or across town.

Here are our top picks for half term:

Imagine Children’s Festival

There’s fun for all the family at the 19th Imagine Children’s Festival at the Southbank Centre.  Be dazzled by a programme of fun interactive events featuring personalities such as Michael Rosen, Dermot O’Leary and Konnie Huq.

Kids can let their creativity go wild on a giant chalkboard, learn about the planet on an earth activity trail, get messy with slime and watch The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show – based on the 1969 children’s book with over 75 puppets. (12-23 February)

Benjamin Pollock’s Toyshop

Delve into a world of imagination at Benjamin Pollock’s Toyshop in the Covent Garden Market Building.  Established in 1880, this bijou toy shop specialises in exquisite toy theatres and retro games.  It’s sure to delight adults and kids alike and is the perfect place to find unique souvenirs.

London Transport Museum

Covent Garden’s London Transport Museum offers an entertaining insight into the world’s most recognisable transport system.  This half term, take part in its family-friendly Museum Mission and uncover why signs and symbols are so important to London.  Kids can also join in party games throughout the day in the Transportorium (15-23 February).

River Boat Trip

Take to the water with an exhilarating River Boat Trip to capture the best views of London.  Hop on board at nearby Embankment Pier and sail down the Thames taking in the capital’s famous landmarks, including Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and the Shard.
It’s a fun, hassle-free way to see as much of the city as possible away from the busy crowds.

The Moomin Shop

Family shopping in Covent Garden wouldn’t be complete without a spin around the Moomin Shop.  Here you can find all sorts of products and memorabilia dedicated to everyone’s favourite hippo-like family, created in 1945 by Finnish artist Tove Jansson.  This adorable boutique has even been designed to look just like Moomin Valley with an enchanted forest and cave.

After an action-packed day exploring London, head back to your cosy retreat at One Aldwych and enjoy a family swim in our fabulous chlorine-free pool, a magnificent Charlie and the Chocolate Factory afternoon tea or a delicious children’s Tray of Treats served in the comfort of your room.
