Last week, Eneko at One Aldwych were delighted to win ‘Best Restaurant or Bar Design 2017” at the annual Restaurant and Bar Design Awards 2017.
Designed by London-based exhibition and interior design studio Casson Mann, Eneko at One Aldwych opened in September 2016, serving informal modern Basque dishes from three-Michelin starred chef Eneko Atxa. Casson Mann was asked to draw on its award-winning storytelling expertise to craft an interior dialogue between Basque and London cultures.
Judged by a panel of some of the most influential personalities in design, hospitality and lifestyle globally, this annual edition of the Awards attracted 980 entries from the UK and 70 other countries. The judges awarded Eneko at One Aldwych on the strength of its “beautifully executed, sophisticated use of textures and details to maximise the proportions and natural light”.
Managing Director, Simon Hirst commented on the project saying “The Eneko at One Aldwych space presented numerous design challenges such as integrating Edwardian-era steel columns and bringing natural daylight to the below street-level space. Casson Mann brilliantly met these and created a wonderful light, airy and modern restaurant. I particularly admire how natural materials from the Basque Country in northern Spain were integrated, including the copper-clad staircase, chestnut tables and chiselled black pine walls.”
