Join us for an exclusive private tour of the famous Theatre Royal
This summer, as part of our Urban Retreat programme of events and activities, One Aldwych has partnered with the nearby Theatre Royal on Drury Lane, to offer guests an exclusive private tour of this famous West End theatre – currently home to Roald Dahl’s tale-turned-musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Moments from One Aldwych, our in-house guests will have the chance to go backstage, with the personal tour guide and theatre expert, Mark Fox. This exclusive tour will take you through the years of the theatre’s life, revealing the many secret quirks that hide behind its doors.
The tour will also take guests on a trip underground, to the home of the Victorian hydraulic machinery living beneath the stage, which used to operate the theatre equipment in the days before electricity.
Even more fascinating is the original production room, this huge space is hidden behind the stage and was designed for painting theatre drapes and stage curtains before the digital print era. The room is still in use today and remains the last traditional production room in London – most recently used to paint the stage curtains for Disney’s Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre. But be careful not to look too far over the edge as it’s a long way down!
With the chance to peek into cast members’ dressing rooms, with costumes out fresh and ready for show time, and perhaps the chance to bump into a few familiar faces, this exclusive theatre tour is ideal for any fan of the London stage. But before you do… have you got that golden ticket?
These private tours are exclusive to One Aldwych and cost £100 for two people, £175 for four people or £250 for six people.
