Market Mania - London's Top Markets
London is justifiably proud of its markets, most of which date back to mediaeval times. Many of London's best are right on One Aldwych's doorstep and make a great day out. From London's oldest market, Borough Market, which is seeing a revival as a foodie haven with its organic produce market, to the eclectic retail wonders of Covent Garden's Apple Market.
Covent Garden Market - Within the iconic Piazza lies the Apple Market which sells hand-made crafts that make perfect gifts. Jubilee Market is on the south side of the Piazza and has an eclectic range of stalls. Open: everyday.
Covent Garden's Real Food Market - Stock up on tasty cheeses, top-notch charcuterie and much more from the many stallholders in this fantastic market. Open: Thursday
Gabriel's Wharf - Small market on the South Bank next to the OXO building, selling mostly jewelry and ethnic nick-nacks. It's a nice walk along the river from One Aldwych hotel. You can hire bicycles just outside the hotel too! Mainly Weekends 10:00-18:00, some stalls keep shop hours.
Borough Market - This gourmet food lovers paradise sells delicious street food, cheeses, artisan bakery goods and fresh fruit and vegetables. Open: Thursday to Saturday
Columbia Road Flower Market - A fabulous flower market in the Old East End which is full of wonderful colours and smells. Open: Sunday
Portobello Road Market - Set amongst pretty pastel coloured houses in fashionable Notting Hill, this market is a treasure trove for beautiful antiques and trendy fashion stalls. Open: Saturday
Leadenhall Market - A city centre market which sells all kinds of gourmet ingredients and fine wines. Open: Monday to Friday
Camden Market - This market is in the hub of London's 'alternative' scene and a great experience for all who visit. Street vendors sell food from all corners of the world which is best enjoyed beside the lock watching the world go by. Open: everyday
Spitalfields Market - A trendy and vibrant market which is surrounded by a host of independent boutiques and restaurants. Open: Sunday
Greenwich Market - At this market you'll find fruit and veg on Wednesday, antiques on Thursday and a mix of craft and fashion by hip new designers at the weekend. Handy for the scenic splendour of Greenwich Park, it's one of the most buzzing markets in London.
