We opened in July 1998 and are proud to be housed in one of the finest Edwardian buildings in London. Completed in 1907 by esteemed architects of the day, Charles Mewès and Arthur Davis, our 'cheese wedge' shaped building is protected by English Heritage. Read more about life before One Aldwych.

The building was originally commissioned to be the headquarters of The Morning Post, a conservative daily newspaper which began circulation in 1772. The building was home to them from 1907 to 1937 when they were acquired by The Daily Telegraph. Several companies including Lloyds Bank then occupied the building until July 1998 when it reopened as London's definitive luxury boutique hotel, One Aldwych.

Charles Mewès and Arthur Davis are the brilliant minds behind the design of our hotel. Often described as their finest work, the building combines historic grandeur with Parisian elegance and incorporates a distinctive coppered cupola dome, female head keystones and beautiful cornices and balconies.
